1. Most important features

The keyboard functionality gives you the chance to design your own keyboard layouts. Foreign languages with different letters are not a problem any more. However, windows settings are not effected by Entity Trainer Studio 3.0.
The media support is rich. In order to train an item you can add audio files, pictures and videos. Hence, your visible and your hearing receptions are stimulated.
The training system is arranged in such a way that difficult words are tested more often. As a result you save time since you’re not wasting your time by repeating words which you already know.

2. Introduction

Entity Trainer Studio 3.0 is more an experiment than a standard application. It has the functionalities of a common vocabulary trainer, but you can train more than one language at one time and you can train other disciplines than languages. I welcome you to participate in this experiment and I’m strongly interested in your experience.

The training system

Let’s begin very easy. The general idea of a vocabulary trainer is to show you a word in your language and to ask you for the corresponding foreign word (or vice versa). There are many different systems how to handle the vocabulary sets and the consequence of correct or incorrect answers. The system used by the this trainer is based on different cardboxes. Each box has a certain amount of vocabulary sets. There’s an inbox for new sets and an outbox for sets you are familiar with. When you start your training you fill sets into box one, usually from the inbox. Whenever you know the correct answer the vocabulary set is shifted to the next box else it returns to box one. Hence, your knowledge of the sets is reflected by proceeding sheets.

Multimedia

Due to the opportunities of the digital world this trainer can use multimedia files as well. With each word and each language different media files can be associated. These media files can be from types of audio, picture and video. As a consequence you can add i.e. the corresponding pronunciation (audio), a picture as a hint or a scene using this word (video). Considering these features this trainer offers more than a common vocabulary trainer, since you can train whatever entities you like to. The use is manifold: geography, art, medicine, ornithology, botany etc.

Multilingual and non-language training

You can add as many languages as you want to, although only four of them can be displayed simultaneously. Why would you want to train more than one language? Well, there’s an opinion that learning more than one language at the same time is useful, since there are certain familiarities between languages. Some of them are obvious like between Spanish and Portuguese, others are less obvious like Greek as a root for many words in other languages. Even if you don’t share this opinion of multilingual training, why not rehearse a language you already know when learning a new one? Besides, for non-language training different attributes can be added. Let’s say you want to learn geography, possible attributes could be the capital, the population, the annual gross national product (and so on) of a country.

	In the beginning the main window is configured for the easiest way: one foreign language learning and hence only two languages are displayed.
	You can displayed four languages simultaneously. Although, you can add even more languages and choose which of them should be shown.
	The vocabulary show offers the opportunity to view vocabulary sets separately along with the associated media files.
	The general idea of creating a keyboard is to solve the problem that your keyboard layout may not have some or any letters of the foreign language which you are willing to train.

4. Shareware limitations

The shareware version of Entity Trainer Studio 3.0 suffers from the following limitations:

Only 100 vocabulary sets can be added.
With a tiny chance vocabulary sets are moved at random.
Only three languages can be used.
With a tiny chance designed keyboards are altered at random.
The keyboard window is not visible in the main window.
The amount of audio scripts is limited to five.
Only one media file can be associated with each vocabulary set.

Pricing:    The price for your own version is 10 Euros.
                 Students with a valid student ID card and
                 handicapped persons with some kind of proof do only have to pay 5 Euros.
